Monday night, prime time viewers of CNBC’s Nightly Business Report were treated to our own Adi Sharabani explaining in plain English the threats that face us every day as we use our mobile devices, and how to avoid them. Mobile devices in the workplace have sparked a productivity revolution, but along with that comes the responsibility to protect the critical data we all carry around with us. Adi reminds us what we should all know, because we forget that “it is always easy to hack into these devices.”
With an average of more than 1 vulnerability being publicly disclosed every day, everyone should take these threats very seriously. Yet, “Most organizations have no clue that their smart phones have been hacked.”
Adi says “There’s no such thing as being 100% secure, but there are many ways to reduce that risk.” Here are some of the simple words of wisdom that could make the difference between keeping your data safe and giving it away to the bad guys.
- “Think twice before you connect to that free Wi-Fi.” “As a security expert, I always click ‘Cancel’.”
- “Read those messages that are being prompted to us, that sometimes say ‘This app will have access to your email’, Would you agree?.” The answer should be “No”.
- “Make sure you update your device as soon as upgrades are released.”
